1963 Ford Galaxie 500, 289-V8, 4 Door Sedan
This car was purchased in 1990 by Steve
Cloutier of Weddington, NC. The car had
only one previous owner, and was very well maintained. At the time he
purchased the car,
Steve was Chief of the Carmel Fire Dept. in North Carolina. He restored
the car, and
modified it as a Chief's Car, with red lights, siren, Motorola 2-way
Hi-Band radio,
and whip antenna. It has a 15 minute airpak, with spare bottle, in the
trunk,
along with a first aid kit, hand light, resuscitator, and axe. The car
was used
for fire prevention, parades and community services.
Photographs of this car are in the book "First
to the Flames - A History of
Fire Chief Vehicles", by Edward L. Peterson (1999 by Krause
Publications).
A large black & white photo of the car is on page 205, and it is
also in one of the
color photos in the center insert of the book. It appears with a 1935
Ford owned
by Pierce Mfg., and the 1953
Ford owned by Wayne Kidd of the ODHFS.
On November 24, 2001, Jack Sullivan,
the WebChief for the ODHFS, traveled to
Weddington, NC., to purchase the car from Steve. Jack drove the car back
to
Richmond, VA, where it is garaged now. Look for it at musters &
parades around Virginia.
