ODHFS Annual Meeting

The Central Region was proud to host the 2002 Statewide Meeting & Convention
January 19, 2002 at the Chesterfield Airport

The Annual Meeting of the ODHFS was held Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the King's
Corner Banquet Room. Despite the inclement weather (snow, rain and some sleet all day!), there was a full house. Following the meeting, the annual banquet was held. A barbeque buffet was catered by King's Catering. An jam packed program followed, include guest speakers, the installation of officers for 2002, a memorial slide show honoring emergency services associated with 9-11-2001, a slide show of highlights of club activities throughout 2001, the Bob White Memorial Award presentation, the 2nd Annual "Founders Awards", the Franklin Mint Raffle, and an assortment of door prizes

One of our guest speakers was George Gander, an ODHFS member, who is a retired Battalion Chief from the New York City Fire Dept. George presented a very thorough overview of high rise fire operations in New York City. Following Chief Gander's presentation, there was a memorial slide show of scenes from the City of  New York after 9-11-01. Many of the photos were of the 90+ pieces of fire apparatus that were destroyed that day. Mr. Henry Kidd, an artist from Colonial Heights, VA then briefed us on his efforts to provide one of his  framed, original, paintings, to each fire station and police station in New York City. Mr. Kidd has done a great job of capturing the essence of the 9-11 disaster in his painting, and his efforts to get a copy to the each fire and police station in NYC are to be commended. Congratulations to Rocky Keplinger, our 2002 Bob White Memorial Award winner. This years Founders Award winners were Steve Hall, Bill Jones Sr., and Bill Cook. A great big thank you to outgoing ODHFS Vice President Tim Price, and Northern Region Director Clyde Clark. Thanks guys !

Bill Jones, Central Region Director, sent the following message after the Annual Meeting:
